The term ‘rebetiko’ refers to the urban popular music of the Greek people, especially those of the poorest strata, that flourished up until the 1950s and was later rediscovered through the so-called rebetiko revival. This synthesis of European, traditional Greek, Byzantine and Ottoman music became a fertile ground for the expression of all the emotions associated with wine drinking. Today, we shall be listening to a combination of both original recordings and covers by more modern performers.

Με τη Μπολσεβίκα ή τη Δημητρούλα, με σεβντάδες, μπεκρήδες και τσαχπίνες, το ρεμπέτικο τίμησε γενναιόδωρα την οινοποσία. «Ταβερνιάρη κέρνα μας κρασί / κάθισε κοντά μας και γλέντησε κι εσύ» με Ρόζα Εσκενάζυ, Μπάμπη Γκολέ, Αγάθωνα και Κώστα Ρούκουνα, μεταξύ άλλων.
